This site begins a process of archiving Matthews past, via objects, photos, newspapers, and other pieces of Matthews’ cultural heritage.  Through UNC Charlotte’s History department and the Matthews Heritage Museum, the project offers a variety of tools for exploring the history of Matthews.

  • The map facilitates a geo-spatial analysis of the town.  The map allows you to select specific objects, and to see the larger collection tied to that specific location.
  • A featured gallery that changes as more items are contributed to the museum and the Omeka site.
  • A narrative that details the history of Matthews in relation to Mecklenburg County, and provides links to external sites for further research.
  • An archival search engine, which allows users to search for specific items in the database.  This function is useful for researchers, or those looking for a particular part of Matthews’ history.
